The Epics® method
The Epics® method helps individuals and groups think, express themselves, and build shared understanding. It combines visual thinking, physical interaction and structured dialogue to help people collaborate equally and remember what matters, especially when things get complex. The method lowers the threshold for speaking up, helps people connect safely and breaks down old, rigid roles. It creates clear conditions for thinking, dialogue: visible, effective, and creative. At the heart of the method are the Epics® objects: physical thought anchors that make experiences, ideas, and challenges concrete and shareable. The objects help teams stay focused, engage everyone and reach real alignment.
When thinking becomes visible, space opens for new insight
Epics® objects create the safety for honest conversations that actually matter

The power of the
Epics® objects
Epics® objects are metaphor-rich by design. They are small, physical tools that are recognizable in form but open in meaning. A metaphor lets one thing stand for another: a tortoise becomes the slowness of development, a wall becomes resistance, a bridge opens possibilities. When that metaphor takes physical form, it moves from inside one person's head into shared space, something the whole group can see, point to, touch, and think with together.
This matters because the brain doesn't just process a visual metaphor intellectually — it experiences it. When you pick up an object and explain what it represents, the brain activates not only language areas but also the visual, motor, and emotional systems. The same systems fire when we encounter the real thing. The brain registers this not as a concept but as something closer to lived experience. This is what words alone cannot do.
How the method works
Every Epics® session has a session moderator – a team lead or anyone in the group or outside the group who steps into the role. They prepare a simple question or challenge, set the structure and guide the process. The content always comes from the group.
From there, the work can go in many directions. You might build a shared picture of a challenge your team is facing. Explore new ideas together. Develop strategy, strengthen team culture or work through a change. Evaluate options and make decisions that everyone can stand behind. Or simply create the space for an honest conversation that actually matters.
Most sessions follow the same arc — tuning in, working together, and wrapping up — supported by seven core working processes (more on these in the method manual) that can be used individually or combined. Use Epics® on their own or alongside paper and Post-its. The method adapts to your goal, your context and the time you have.
